Fall 2: Deadpoint (2026) Review: Story, Verdict & Where to Watch

A Precarious Ascent into High-Stakes Tension

With slippery mountains as their new backdrop, 'Fall 2: Deadpoint' takes its audience back to that nerve wracking place to which its predecessor took them, they being the mountainous peaks of Thailand's Mount Kwan. Immediately, the directors, Michael and Peter Spierig, unleash an anxiety inducing sense of vertigo. With the environment surrounding them, it is almost impossible not to feel dread. This film is a masterclass of setting up its story. Before we know it, we are taken to the mountains, somewhere in the region of 2,000 feet, and have met our two protagonists Harriet Slater and Arsema Thomas. It is not long until this becomes a fight for their survival. The anxiety inducing ambience is set and establishes a level of anxiety that is a prerequisite for what is about to come. 'Deadpoint' thrives in this opening sequence and delivers on its promise of being an anxiety inducing and claustrophobic nightmare. Many critics noted that with the original source premise largely staying the same and with the addition of new locations and an overall dotted narrative line, 'Deadpoint' is remedying the urge to tell a story on a larger scale.

Navigating Vertigo and Narrative Twists

Where 'Fall 2: Deadpoint' sets itself apart is with the bigger stakes and more complicated plot. Bill Bria of /Film praised the movie's ‘wilder stakes’ and ‘double the twists’ over taking the same path as the original movie. The movie adds a lot of sudden turns to throw the audience off. It even takes some time to enter more plot ‘soap-opera-like’ twists and turns to make the plot more character driven. While a lot of people praised the movie for having the main survival-thriller plotline, it has a lot of people asking if it has gone too far. Some of the climbing scenes are 'effectively dizzying and tense' as Bria said. The movie takes a lot of practical effects and some clever camera work to showcase the terrifying exposure. Harriet Slater and Arsema Thomas pull off performances to show how scared they are, and give off a good amount of determination as well. They really act with a good sense of the scenes. Especially when the movie throws in a repetitive plot line, there is a good sense of realism to bring a good amount of emotions. Simon Abrams of The AV Club said it best when he said the 'watery characterization and bland dialogue’ is because the numerous twists do not help. The movie wants to give a good sense of realism and a complex plotline but, there really isn’t a good amount of emotional drama. The plotline really loses a lot of the great effects. The quality of computer-generated effects also put off some people, taking them away from the good effects that were shown. Especially when the effects were used to show realism, the movie would pull people out of the experience and give off a lot of detachment from the good effects.

Who Should Brace for the Drop?

'Fall 2: Deadpoint' will keep thriller fans and cinematic vertigo enthusiasts entertained for its entire running time. Fans of the first film will know the sequel is formulaic, but this movie has its own issues. Leaning into the source material, the Spierig brothers, are obviously adept at creating thrilling sequences where audiences are forced to grip their armrest. The acting is good and able to carry the emotional burden of the plot. The film comes in at a rapid fire pace (2 hours), but an issue of pace that surfaced with the first film resurfaces in part two as well. The film has a PG-13 rating, which by today's standards, makes the violence less graphic, but still inappropriate for a young or sensitive audience. The general audience rating hovers around a 6, with some likely tension and survival scenarios fans enjoying the film, and more critical eyes holding a 4. If you go in not expecting a cinematic masterpiece, the movie should be enjoyable in the pulp thriller genre.

It’s enjoyable for those who like the genre for its particular thrills. It adds enough new things to say it’s a different game from most of the others out there.

Though this isn’t a brilliant reinvention of the series in any way, it is a good iteration on the original premise.
